MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Thirty-six motorcycles to celebrate the 110-year history of EICMA, the International Bicycle, Motorcycle and Accessory Exhibition that opens at Rho Fiera (Mi) on Nov. 7, 2024. With the exhibition “EICMA: 110 Years of Two-Wheeled Design,” open Nov. 7-10, visitors will be able to take a journey through the curves, surfaces, lines, technology and mechanics of motorcycles that have made the history of two wheels, but also get up close and personal with the genius of great designers with their insights. The exhibition itinerary hosted at the South Gate Convention Center in the exhibition district winds through models that have left their mark by their design. It is divided into three sections: shapes, proportions and materials.During the press preview held on the exhibition premises on Monday, Nov. 4, EICMA President Pietro Meda said, “The motorcycles on display represent more than an era, a type, a way of doing things of that era, a way therefore of adapting what are the forms of design. The shape of course is important but it is also important that the shapes are compatible with the fact that they have to be a medium and so they are shapes on two wheels.” The CEO of EICMA, Paolo Magri, stressed that the exhibition is “not simply a ranking of the most beautiful motorcycles but a cultural proposal that spreads knowledge and accompanies visitors inside the fascinating creative and design path that designers take: from the blank sheet to the final realization.”All the motorcycles on display excel, they were in fact chosen from hundreds and often loaned by private collectors, some, however, stand out over the others: opening the exhibition, in the “shapes” section is a Frera 2 1/4 Hp Lusso that in 1914 was among those present at the first edition of EICMA, at the time at the Kursaal Diana in Porta Venezia in Milan. In the same section we find the Mars A20, exhibited at EICMA in 1920, a true triumph of rationalism, and the more recent 1984 Kawasaki GPZ900R, famous for its appearance in the film Top Gun. In the section devoted to “proportions,” the muscular 1957 Moto Guzzi eight-cylinder 500 by engineer Giulio Cesare Carcano cannot fail to attract attention, almost opposite is a mobility icon like the Piaggio Ciao 50. Finally, in the section dedicated to “materials,” where the pinnacle of manufacturing and engineering processes is reached, there is a tribute to Corradino D’Ascanio for the use of sheet metal in Piaggio’s Vespa, the unconventional racing design of the 1978 ELF X, and the Laverda RGS 1000.-photo EICMA press office-(ITALPRESS).
