Lazio ahead in Europa League, Porto falls at Stadio Olimpico

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Lazio also beats Porto and in blissful solitude looks down on everyone in the Europa League. At the Olimpico it ends 2-1 thanks to goals from Romagnoli (45+5′) and the usual Pedro (92′) that allow the biancocelesti to keep full points (12 points), with 11 goals scored and 2 conceded. Yet another show of strength for Marco Baroni’s men, who inflicted a defeat on a team that had never lost in the biancoceleste Olimpico (two draws in two matches) and had not finished knockout this season since last September 25. Porto, however, did not disfigure. Indeed, before the Lazio lead, Vitor Bruno’s boys came close to scoring with the sharpest chance of the first half. In 33′ Omorodion (4 goals so far in Europe) led the counterattack and served Fabio Vieira, who, in the box, moved the ball to his left-hand side and with a roundabout conclusion hit both the woodwork and the crossbar at the crossroads of the posts. Lazio (which had a goal disallowed for offside by Castellanos) unlocked the result in the last minute of stoppage time. On the development of a corner from the left, Castellanos acted as a tower for Romagnoli, who took advantage of Diogo Costa’s uncertain exit to deposit a header into the net. Porto’s triple change at 61′: out came Fernandes, Namaso and Varela; in came Joao Mario, Pepe and Nico Gonzalez. At 66′ the guests equalize: Fabio Vieira verticalizes for Galeno, who breaks through on the left and offloads for Eustaquio, who in the center of the area opens his saucer and with a low shot beats Mandas. Baroni immediately runs for cover: out come Tchaouna, Castellanos and Gigot; in come Rovella, Gila and Dia. The 37-year-old Pedro stayed on the field until the very last and it was he who scored the winning goal: the Spaniard controlled a ball on Isaksen’s cross and from two steps did not miss. Lazio will return to the Europa League pitch on Thursday, November 28, to take on Ludogorets at the Stadio Olimpico. It will do so as leaders and with an increasingly decisive Pedro.- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
