Anti-Semitism alarm, Italians divided

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Recently, in different parts of Europe, a number of demonstrations, clashes and assaults against people of Israeli and Jewish descent have ignited public debate on the possible rise and widespread spread of a wave of anti-Semitism. In our country, there is no clear perception among Italians about the spread of this hatred. In fact, the sample is divided between those who – for the most part – consider this phenomenon to be very or fairly widespread (46.8 percent) and those who, on the contrary, do not encounter this feeling of hostility toward Jews (42.8 percent). Similarly, a 41.9 percent of the population who have seen an increase in anti-Semitism in Italy in the past year is contrasted with a 40.9 percent who see no difference from before the reignition of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. What is certain in the perceptions of Italians is that certainly this conflict influences and contributes to generating antipathy toward Jews. In fact, in the case, for example, of the attack on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in Amsterdam, for almost half of the population (46.6%) it was a premeditated ambush against the fans as Israelis, regardless of the football dynamics.
