ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The opening of the Rome office first of all was a duty to our colleagues, to give them a home that would be welcoming after the pandemic and to be able to come to the office to share work. It’s also a home where we welcome customers, because one of the distinctive elements of our company in Italy is to have a very important local presence.” So said Aon’s Ceo Italy and Eastern Mediterranean, Andrea Parisi, during the presentation of the group’s new hub office in Rome at Villa Sperer. It accommodates 230 employees, the second largest in Italy after the one in Milan, which helps to strengthen the presence in Italy. In fact, Aon has a presence in 14 regions, with 29 offices spread across the territory. New offices in Lucca and Catania were also inaugurated between 2023 and 2024, while those in Brescia, Naples and San Marino were renovated. “This year we plan to close over 330 million.
Of the turnover we make in Italy, one third,” Parisi explained, “is made by the first 150 clients.
“The others from a number of associations, such as accountants, notaries, engineers, and different specialties of doctors. Sectors that are neither large companies nor SMEs but that increasingly need insurance coverage.” In addition, “in the last 9 months we have made two new acquisitions: one is Gi&Bi Brokers, active in agribusiness, because the agricultural world is also very attentive to insurance purposes, and at the end of July Methis Lab, which deals with the cessione del quinto, an instrument that is increasingly useful in our country and where we think there is the possibility of having good growth. We are evaluating a number of opportunities and I think we will do by the middle of next year a couple of transactions especially in areas where we are not as strong.”
On the horizon of the plan is the goal of growing another 50 percent over last year by 2027. To do this, the company is focusing mainly on medium-sized companies.
“We have over 55 percent market share in the large corporate arena and a growing share in the middle market. That’s why the focus is to continue to help medium-sized companies protect themselves from risk.”
With this in mind, according to Parisi, one issue to look out for is climate change: “Last year the insurance system paid 6 billion more in catastrophe damages in Italy, so much so that the government decided to make insurance coverage for catastrophic risks mandatory for companies. A strong signal that there is attention to the need to make our companies increasingly competitive.”
Carlo Clavarino, executive chairman international business of Aon, pointed out that “in 20 years our run has been ecezionale both because of our company, but also because the world has become more and more at risk for companies. Our business is among the most in-demand, given what we have experienced in the last few years, between pandemics and cyber risks, as well as the fact that liability has grown even in Europe. Today, the responsibilities of an entrepreneur are much more felt and tangible than they used to be. We had a weak first quarter and a much stronger second quarter.”
Then speaking about the group’s strategy, he dwelt on the fact that Aon aims to strengthen itself in the market dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises. In this sense there was the acquisition of the company Nfp for $14 billion. “We planned to invest heavily in Nfp, a leading company in the middle market sector, a sector in which we had little presence in the US. Now we have the opportunity to have a platform that works with middle market companies. For the moment we are not merging it within the group, but we will make all the synergies we need.” Aon Italia Executive Chairman Marco Dubini Daccò wanted to highlight how “Aon has a special concern for the welfare of the people who work for us and with us: we care that those who work with us have a welcoming home. The inauguration of this office I think is an important signal. This must be considered a second home, and we try to make sure that we welcome customers, that they see us as people who want to be close to them. We also try to combine the experience of our people with younger people. My job is to try to team up and work together to achieve extraordinary results, and I think we are going in that direction.”
