EU, Felipe of Spain “Decisive legislature, complex challenges for Europe”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The challenges facing Europe are complex and enormous, in terms of security, climate crisis, energy transition, migration management, but there is no challenge, challenge or threat, no matter how serious, that justifies us to depart from our European identity and path.” This was said by King Felipe VI of Spain at a ceremony in the Montecitorio hall before the assembled Chamber of Deputies, in the presence of the highest state officials. “Our concertation, our solidarity, have helped us to promote projects such as the Recovery Fund Next Generation EU, which is transforming Europe,” he added. “The Union is facing a decisive legislature, which is leaving behind a complex institutional cycle. For King Felipe, the new Commission “must lead the Union into the future, with lines of action essential to the interests of Italy and Spain: from ensuring global competitiveness, to betting on a renewed internal market; from projecting the Union with intelligence and solidarity toward its closest neighbors, to advancing common defense and open strategic autonomy; from betting on digital transformation to continuing to protect the rights of our citizens. “I have always found in the President of the Republic wisdom, wisdom and advice. You know this better than I do: President Mattarella is a point of reference for Italy and for Italians, as well as for many heads of state, among whom I certainly find myself. I am honored to be among them,” the monarch continued. “I am honored to be here, if I am here it is because Spain is not only considered a friendly country to Italy, but a brother country, which is the same consideration Spain has for Italy,” Felipe further said. “In this historic space, the seat, together with the Senate of the Republic, of the representation of national sovereignty, the values that define us are projected; democracy, individual freedoms, human rights and the rule of law are affirmed.”Italy and Spain are united by a firm commitment to multilateralism, that is, to a rules-based world order inspired by the purposes and principles of the United Nations charter,” he added. “We are two countries with memory, with a clear awareness of the past, particularly of what cannot and must not be repeated, and we see with logical concern how many treaties, institutions and multilateral forums are undergoing accelerated erosion, while at the same time questioning its effectiveness or the very meaning of its existence; a dangerous slide toward something uncertain and not at all bright.
