EMPOLI (ITALPRESS) – Empoli and Fiorentina produced an uninspiring match and ended the Tuscan derby with a point each. Few chances were recorded by either side in this 0-0 draw, with the goalkeepers effectively non-paying spectators on the occasion. After less than 3 minutes, Pezzella brushes a tricky cross to the left on which Ismajli misses by a whisker. The Viola broke through often on the right with Dodò and, on the half-hour mark, one of his crosses landed on the head of Colpani who, however, peeled the ball away from a good position, with the ball ending wide. A first half devoid of any particular excitement closes without goals.
Then, at the start of the second half, it was the hosts who tried their hand with Esposito, who advanced toward the opponent’s penalty area, accented himself on the left and attempted a conclusion at the second post, which, however, went off the bottom. At 5′ it was Pezzella who intercepted a ball in the middle of the field and sprinted toward goal, with his deflected left-footed shot being centrally rejected with open hands by De Gea. Palladino’s men were back at it in the 11th minute, when Gosens tried with a powerful left-footed volley from distance, but the ball went off to the right of the post. In the 33′, Kean protests a possible landing by Ismajli against him but the referee lets the game play. In the final, the result will not change, with the referee declaring the hostilities ended on the score of 0-0. The standings now see Empoli – still undefeated in Serie A, on a par with Juventus – climb to 10 and have a 3-point lead over Fiorentina.
