Gabbia in extremis and Inter knocked out, Milan wins derby

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The Milan derby returned to the Rossoneri, with AC Milan beating Inter 2-1 and breaking the streak of six consecutive defeats in a stracittadina that, with this act, also reaches the box office record in Serie A history with a total of 7,626,430 euros. An opening goal from Pulisic, later equalized by Dimarco’s left-footed shot, with Milan, however, managing to hold off Inzaghi’s team at the distance, taking the new lead in the final (89th minute) thanks to Gabbia’s header.
Milan started well, unlocking the result after ten minutes thanks to Pulisic’s breakaway, quick to take advantage of a ball lost by Mkhitaryan and turn it into the slalom that ended with the American’s goal. The Rossoneri’s advantage coldly struck Inter, who, however, immediately tried to respond with Dumfries’ assist for Lautaro’s turn, just high. The same Argentine, however, will be the protagonist in the Interista equalizer, at 28′, with a swerve over Gabbia and an assist for Dimarco’s winning left-footer, on which Maignan can do nothing. Equalizer and Inter will be back at 42′, again with Lautaro’s initiative that this time serves Thuram, quick to turn with his right, which, however, finds Maignan’s diving save.
Halftime brought no changes in the two sides, with Milan restarting well and immediately sending a signal to Sommer, who was responsive on Leao’s dangerous header. Intensity and pace on the pitch, with Milan briefly earning a penalty for an alleged hand touch by Lautaro, immediately corrected by Var, while Inter respond with the same Argentine 10’s shot parried again by Maignan. It goes from one side to the other, however, this time with Milan once again dangerous from Sommer’s side on Reijnders’ feed for Abraham’s cross-header ending just to the Swiss goalkeeper’s left. It was in the 89th minute, however, that the turning point of the match came, on Reijnders’ free kick that calibrated well the cross sent into the net by Gabbia. The Rossoneri’s goal kicked off Inter’s final forcing that ended, however, without any particular Nerazzurri sharpness and with the six minutes of recovery time granted by Mariani that (after the resounding 1-3 failed by Okafor) sent the San Siro challenge to the final credits. The Diavolo enjoys it and so does Toro, in blissful solitude at the top of the standings.
