ROME (ITALPRESS) – “By now it is clear as day: in October you will be at a crossroads, forced to choose between two opposing visions of what the 5 Star Movement should be. The first is of a politics that comes from below, and not from professional politicians; the second is that of Giuseppe Conte.” Beppe Grillo founder of the 5Star Movement writes this on his blog. “The MoVimento, as you know, was born from the idea that Gianroberto and I had to create a different political force, an alternative to the traditional parties, now encrusted with decades of zombie politicians, more attentive to their own interests than to those of the citizens they should represent. We knew from the beginning that the danger of falling into the same trap looms over every political force, because every representative inevitably tends to put himself at the center, sacrificing the collective interest. It’s a story as old as time: for centuries communities have been engineering to find rules that can stem this drift.” “There are no perfect rules, but it is clear that conflicts of interest are exacerbated when representatives lock themselves in their privileges and refuse to leave space for others. This is behavior dictated by natural human selfishness, ingrained and difficult to eradicate. For this very reason, Gianroberto and I understood that in order to create a model different from traditional parties, we had to establish some basic, inviolable rules. For this reason, when we talk about founding principles we are talking about non-negotiable principles, principles that if they are unhinged collapse the foundations of a house that brick by brick we have built together with you over all these years. To date, it does not seem to me that a work of renewal is being carried out, but a work of demolition, to build something totally new, which has nothing to do with the 5 Star Movement. On August 20, I published on my blog a post entitled “Our DNA” in which I called for the preservation of the symbol, the name and the second term rule, the founding principles of the MoVimento 5 Stelle. After the publication of the said post, Giuseppe Conte published a video launching the Constituent Assembly in which he declared that both the symbol, the name, and even the rules of the M5S could undergo changes,” Grillo continues. “Now, I make even more explicit what I had already intended to do with that post, unfortunately ignored by President Conte: to exercise the rights that the Statute recognizes me as Guarantor, that is, guardian of the fundamental Values of the political action of the MoVimento 5 Stelle. And therefore, according to what Article 12 (a) number 2 states, I reiterate that there are inescapable elements of the 5 Star Movement that must remain so in order for the Movement to still be able to call itself such: the name, the symbol and the two-term rule.”
