PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – One person, one team. This is the philosophy behind the composition of the list of candidates for the federal council who support Ottavio Gueli, a Palermo lawyer and candidate for the presidency of Fick, the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation, which will renew its leadership at the elective assembly convened for Oct. 12 in Rome.
Current president of the Sport for All Committee of the same Fick, for eight years at the head of the Regional Committee of Sicily, first a speed canoe athlete with the Canottieri Trinacria and then a technician and coach of the Salunto nautical club, the Clubino del mare and again of Trinacria, founder in 2007 of the Circolo nautico Palermo (former Canoe club Arenella) and now president of the Lega Navale section Palermo-Arenella, Gueli is running with the declared intention of fostering a change of pace in Fick.
“A goal,” he points out, “that cannot be achieved alone, and that is why in the long months leading up to the elections we have identified a number of people with various skills destined to form a solid team. This does not mean having ‘subjects’ in the court of the king, but openly confronting each other to arrive at shared decisions that are also attentive to suggestions coming from the societies that are the real beating heart for any federation.”
The team supporting Gueli is composed of Cristian Aprile (Lerici), Andrea Pierfranco Baglioni (Sesto Calende), Beniamino Bonomi (Verbania, double silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, gold at Sydney 2000 and silver at Athens 2004), Paolo Borghi (Ferrara), Alessandra Catania (Catania), Giuliana Di Bartolo (Palermo), Alessandro Gnecchi (Lecco), Federico Mancarella (Bologna, bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics), Bruno Panziera (Verona), Eleonora Tassarotti (Genoa).
Gueli’s opponents are outgoing president Luciano Buonfiglio, who to be re-elected will have to reach nearly 67 percent of the consensus as the law requires for those running after having already served three or more terms as president, Sardinian Andrea Argiolas and former Olympic speed canoe champion Daniele Scarpa.
