ROME (ITALPRESS) – In the first seven months of the year, migrant arrivals on Italian shores dropped by more than half, registering -62 percent compared to 2023. In fact, landings fell from 88,939 recorded last year, in the period between January 1 and July 31, to 33,480 in 2024. These are some of the data contained in the Viminale’s Ferragosto 2024 dossier, where it is pointed out that “in the face of the reduction of migratory flows, amounting to 64 percent in the Central Mediterranean and 75 percent along the Balkan route,” there is also a parallel increase in arrivals along the Western and Eastern Mediterranean routes, which specifically involved Spain (+153 percent) and Greece (+57 percent). Repatriations also grew from 2,572 in 2023 to 3,079 in 2024 (in the period between January and July) registering a growth of +19.71 percent. In addition, the number of unaccompanied foreign minors arriving on Italian shores is plummeting: while last year a total of 18,820 landed, this year (the figure is updated to August 12) there were 4,541.
