ROME (ITALPRESS) – In July, Istat estimates that the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production decreased by 0.9 percent compared to June. The average for the May-July period shows a 0.4 percent decline in the level of production compared to the previous three months. The monthly seasonally adjusted index grows cyclically only for energy (+2.3 percent); while it falls for intermediate goods (-0.7 percent), capital goods (-1.2 percent) and consumer goods (-2.3 percent). Adjusted for calendar effects, the overall index in July declines in trend terms by 3.3 percent (there were 23 calendar working days compared to 21 in July 2023). Trend increases were recorded only for energy (+1.5 percent); on the other hand, intermediate goods (-2.8 percent) and to a greater extent capital goods (-4.2 percent) and consumer goods (-5.2 percent) declined. The sectors of economic activity registering the largest trend increases are manufacturing of chemical products (+3.9 percent), food, beverages and tobacco industries (+2.5 percent) and electricity, gas, steam and air supply (+1.9 percent). The largest declines were in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-18.3 percent), manufacture of transport equipment (-11.4 percent) and mining and quarrying (-5.9 percent).
