Kicking off in Palermo XXII AIOLP National Congress.

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Under the chairmanship of Professors Gianfranco Cupido and Riccardo Speciale, with the scientific direction of Professor Aldo Messina, the XXII AIOLP (Italian Association of Otolaryngologists Free Professionals) National Congress will be held in Palermo, a society that brings together Otolaryngologists Free Professionals from all over Italy and is expected to convene about 600 Congressmen at the premises of the Cantieri Culturali della Zisa. The congress will have an appendix on the morning of October 3; the opening ceremony will be in the afternoon. Work will go into full swing on Oct. 4 and 5.

In addition to the participation of a large representation of professionals coming from the various regions of Italy, Professionals from other nations such as Spain and France will also be present.
This is the first time ever that this Congress is being held in Palermo; the last previous editions were held in Riva del Garda in 2021, Bari in 2022, and Milan in 2023.
This is one of the most important and well-attended Italian conferences of the specialty as it brings together otolaryngologists who practice in personal private practices, in contracted practices, in the context of private outpatient clinics and clinics, and in outpatient clinics of the national health service, and it also attracts specialists who work in the context of hospital and university facilities. A wide participation of professionals from many related specialties looms large, since otolaryngology is a branch of medicine that, dealing with head and neck pathology, inevitably also involves specialties such as audiology, phoniatrics, neurology, ophthalmology, Odontostomatology and oral and maxillofacial surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The presence of other professionals such as audiometrists and hearing and speech therapists completes the coverage of all issues related to the functionality of the neurosensory systems fundamental to oral communication, where rehabilitation procedures play a key role.
The program will include a series of themed papers, keynote readings, panel discussions, and free communications.
The main topics that will be covered relate to disorders of the sensorineural system of balance and auditory function. Meniere’s disease, which causes disabling vertiginous crises as well as progressive deafness and intolerable tinnitus, is addressed according to recent methods that contemplate a multidisciplinary approach with particular attention to the correlations with the gastrointestinal system and the intestinal microbiome, which has been seen to play an essential role in the well-being of the entire organism. Therefore, advances in the introduction and use of nutraceuticals and supplements will also find room for discussion during the congress sessions.
Another topic that will be carried out through a round table, concerns current events in the field of corrective surgery of the nasal pyramid; next to the traditional surgical techniques both in closed and so-called open technique, a conservative method (preservation rhinoplasty) that avoids an artificial modification of the nasal dorsum, offering more natural results with reduced traumatism, has been spreading in recent times. The goal always remains to offer up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of techniques that allow the achievement of an optimal respiratory functional result with a satisfactory aesthetic appearance.
A large space of discussion is reserved for voice disorders in both adulthood and childhood, with the participation of some of the leading experts in the field who deal with advanced diagnostics according to the most up-to-date equipment available and with minimally invasive laryngeal surgery and phonosurgery (voice surgery) with an update on interventions aimed at voice modification in transgender people, a topical subject that certainly deserves more attention.
Finally, a panel discussion will be held on the artistic voice, that is, all the issues involved in setting the voice in the acting of actors in all the possible aspects and facets involved. The panelists are otoiatricians who are experts in Phoniatrics, joined by speech therapists and actors. In particular, actors Salvo Ficarra and Valentino Picone and actress Consuelo Lupo will bring their acting experience with a note of irony and lightness that do not affect the scientific value of the session.
