ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Israeli IDF announces that Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah was killed in yesterday’s airstrike in Beirut. In a statement, the IDF says that along with Nasrallah, the commander of Hezbollah’s so-called Southern Front, Ali Karaki, was also killed, along with other commanders.Nasrallah was targeted while he was in Hezbollah’s main headquarters in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh. The headquarters is underground, beneath residential buildings in Dahiyeh, the IDF says. “The attack was carried out while Hezbollah’s top leadership was in their headquarters and busy coordinating terrorist activities against citizens of the State of Israel,” the army says. Hezbollah later officially confirmed the death of its leader.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has held several telephone contacts in recent hours with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, and the Delegated Authority for the Security of the Republic, Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano, regarding developments in the crisis in Lebanon. This was communicated by Palazzo Chigi, stressing that “despite its dramatic nature, the situation of our compatriots, military and civilians present on Lebanese territory does not show profiles different from those of recent days. Italy confirms, in line with the position held so far, the need for every diplomatic effort in order to restart channels of dialogue between the conflicting parties.”
