ROME (ITALPRESS) – Luigi Marattin is leaving Italia Viva and founding the “Orizzonti Liberali” association, bringing with him “hundreds” of territorial leaders. This was announced by the deputy himself during a press conference in Montecitorio. “It is with a strong personal regret, but with an equally strong conviction, clarity and determination that we announce our farewell to the political community of Italia Viva. There is a strong personal sorrow because it is not only the end of a journey that lasted 5 years, but the end of a much longer journey, in my case 15 years. I thank the political community of Italia Viva and I thank Matteo Renzi for giving me the opportunity to serve my country. We do not share the choice to join the so-called broad camp,” he explains, “we do not share it in the method because such a choice obviously should have been made at a congress. It’s a choice we don’t share because we are still convinced that there is nothing interesting in the broad camp to form a coherent political proposal for a government of the country, from justice to taxation, environment, energy, foreign policy. On all these dimensions the political positions, which are legitimate, of the broad camp are antithetical to those that have constituted the figurehead of renzism in recent years and on which militants and leaders have given their soul, heart and time. Now we are asked to throw everything away in the name of a political choice that we do not share and that needed a serious discussion. “Our decision,” Marattin continued, “was to found an association called ‘Liberal Horizons,’ it would be unrealistic and even a bit childish to leave one party and found another, Italy has already seen too many unrealistic experiences of this kind, parties are a serious thing especially if they have to fill a void of political representation as we believe there is in Italy. With this association we immediately intend to join other realities that are working for the same goal as us, and that Saturday, September 14 in Milan will see an initial ferment. The path will not be easy, the goal is to equip Italy in the next three years with a liberal-democratic and reformist party that will be in a position to present itself at the political elections,” he adds. “I do not intend to join Azione, I believe that even that party configuration may not be what Italy needs to form a liberal-democratic and reformist party that succeeds in making a breakthrough. In the construction site that we are opening,” he concludes. Action will be invited and if you want to participate I will be happy.
