ROME (ITALPRESS) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as part of her ongoing contacts on the crisis in the Middle East, had a new telephone conversation today with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.President Meloni,” reads a note from Palazzo Chigi, “reiterated her strong hope that an agreement for a sustainable cease-fire in Gaza and the release of hostages, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2735, can be reached at the next round of negotiations on Aug. 15. President Meloni reiterated her strong support for the mediation led by the United States, Egypt and Qatar. While recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of regional de-escalation, including along the Israeli-Lebanese border where the UN interposition force, Unifil, in which Italy plays a leading role, is present.(ITALPRESS).- Photo: Palazzo Chigi –
