Mercedes-AMG One breaks its own lap record at the Nùrburgring

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Mercedes-AMG ONE has been the fastest production car on the Nùrburgring-Nordschleife since October 2022 and has been unrivaled ever since. The only rival is the ONE itself. Maro Engel, Mercedes AMG brand ambassador and DTM driver, has again significantly improved the lap time he set. With an officially measured and authenticated time of 6:29.090 minutes for the 20.832-kilometer track, the hypercar with Formula 1 technology beat his own record for production vehicles by more than five seconds. This makes the Mercedes AMG ONE the first road car under the magical 6:30 wall. It is also the only production hybrid hypercar to have taken on the world’s most challenging circuits and is the undisputed leader in the super sports car class. “We have held the record for road vehicles for almost two years now. But in AMG we always want to push the boundaries of what is possible or even take them a little further. That’s why we wanted to demonstrate the potentials of our AMG ONE once again. The entire team was rewarded for their efforts and commitment. I am proud of this teamwork and the fantastic record time we achieved. Once again, we have impressively demonstrated the spirit and competence of AMG,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Mercedes AMG GmbH and Head of the Mercedes Benz G-Class and Mercedes Maybach divisions. “Two years ago, the conditions were not ideal and some sections of the track were still a bit damp. We knew we could do more and we wanted to prove it. Today we were able to express the full potential of the AMG ONE. I would like to thank the entire team in Affalterbach for their trust in me. It was a great pleasure and an honor to be able to drive this record lap in such a unique car,” added Maro Engel. To achieve the ambitious goals they had set, meticulous preparation was necessary. In addition, track conditions had to be ideal to beat the 6:30-minute target. On Sept. 23, 2024, at 6:56 p.m., on his third timed lap, Maro Engel captured the new record. With temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius (air) and 20 degrees Celsius (asphalt), the legendary Nordschleife remained dry throughout and offered perfect grip.
