Pelissero (Aiop) “Inadequate Lea tariffs, minister summons us”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The new fee schedule is not adequate to produce quality and sustainable services, so our overall opinion is negative. And this is not just my opinion: the entire system of private-law facilities, which provide more than 50 percent of outpatient services in Italy, thinks so. Then it is clear that some small improvements are there in the face of even very serious retrogressions.” Thus the president of the Private Hospital Association (Aiop) Gabriele Pelissero, interviewed by “Il Sole 24 Ore” about the Lea tariffs launched yesterday with the State-Regions Agreement. What are the most relevant gaps? “Two cases on all: the first visit stands at 25 euros gross, just 5.6 euros more than in 2012 that is twelve years ago. These are all-inclusive gross figures: this means that the company, once it has paid for the facility, heating, security, quality, administrative and health support staff, will have about 10 euros gross to pay for the doctor’s visit, which after deductions will become 5 euros. It is difficult to find a specialist willing, under these conditions, to do an eye or dermatological examination. Ditto for the follow-up visit, whose fee has dropped to 17.90 euros that is 1.20 euros less than in 2023. Not to mention that even on assisted procreation we are registering a backward step. “Unfortunately, the improvements are in decimals,” Pelissero continues, “on rates that have been stationary for 12 years. The only very positive note is to have accepted the request of the presidents to be able to raise them everywhere, the rates, whereas before governors in the reentry plan did not have a free hand. This means for all regions to gain at least a little more room for maneuver. But it also shows us that a tariff schedule was approved yesterday already knowing that the regions will have to increase it, to bring it to manageable and sustainable levels. And that gives us all relief, because no one wants to make citizens pay for the mistakes they made.” How do you intend to move forward? “With an appeal to the Minister of Health so that he immediately opens an institutional table of discussion with providers on all rates, so as to set a level of sustainability for each service based on precise and shared calculations,” he concludes.
