Piastri wins Azerbaijan GP, Leclerc second

BAKU (AZERBAIJAN) (ITALPRESS) – Oscar Piastri brings home the victory of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with the McLaren driver taking his second win of the season and of his career among the curves of the old city of Baku. Nothing to do for Charles Leclerc, who despite taking pole position at the end of Saturday’s qualifying could not – for the fourth time on this track – turn the first grid position into victory. Only second, then, the Monegasque of Ferrari, who after being overtaken by Piastri on lap 20 struggled to the end, surrendering only when his tires gave out. Finishing third, however, was Britain’s George Russell (Mercedes), who ended up on the podium because of the accident that occurred during the penultimate lap to the Ferrari of Spaniard Carlos Sainz and the Red Bull of Sergio Perez. Impact against the barriers for the two single-seaters and virtual safety car that therefore freezes the positions, with the comeback of the other McLaren of Briton Lando Norris, who starting fifteenth finished fourth, putting him right behind his world rival, Dutchman Max Verstappen on Red Bull. Sixth was Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin, followed by the excellent Williams of Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto – the latter in his first Formula One points -, with Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes and Oliver Bearman’s Haas completing the top ten. – Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
