ZURICH (SWITZERLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Tadej Pogacar is the new cycling world champion. The Slovenian, a first-time rainbow winner, ends an incredible season. After winning the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France Pogacar triumphed solo in the elite road race of the Cycling World Championships, staged in Zurich. Starting with 100 kilometers to go and only remaining at -50, the Uae Emirates phenom won the first historic gold medal for Slovenia in cycling. Third last year in Glasgow, Pogacar moved ahead of Australian Ben O’Connor, second, and Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel, the defending champion, who finished third. No Italians in the top 20 finishers in today’s race. “I can’t believe what happened, after a season in which there was so much pressure. The race broke out pretty early, I don’t know what I was thinking, I just took off, luckily I made it, it was incredible,” the new world champion said after his triumph. “I absolutely wanted this title, I fought for Giro and Tour and this year I had the opportunity to win the World Championship as well. After a perfect season I was able to achieve the last big goal as well. Without the team it would not have been possible, I thank all my national team,” added the beaming Pogacar.- photo Image -(ITALPRESS).
