ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Europe needs common defense, not the arms race of individual states. This is and remains the position of the PD. Today in Parliament a resolution on common defense was being voted on, with many points that we agree with, but the resolution also gave support to the RearmEU plan proposed by Ursula Von der Leyen to which we have made and confirm many criticisms precisely because it facilitates the rearmament of individual states by making national debt, but does not contribute to common defense and indeed risks delaying it. That plan must be changed.” This was stated in a note by Pd Secretary Elly Schlein.
“The European Union needs a turnaround in political integration and common investments-for a common industrial, social, environmental, digital and defense plan, but not only and not at the expense of social and cohesion-we need to increase industrial capacity and coordination, with the federalist horizon of a common army serving a common foreign policy and peace project. Goals for which we will continue to strive every day,” Schlein concluded.
