ROME (ITALPRESS) – For the second year in a row, Italy has been confirmed as one of the countries with the highest level of awareness regarding environmental issues worldwide. This is according to the results of the Ecological Transformation Barometer, the survey conducted again this year by Veolia in collaboration with the consulting firm Elabe. Aware of the risks to health and quality of life posed by climate change, 75 percent of Italians say they believe that acting for ecological transformation will cost less than environmental inaction (well above the world average, 66 percent). The survey, which involved a global sample of 29,500 individuals from 26 countries, also examined the degree of acceptability of sustainable solutions, analysis of obstacles and levers for action to accelerate ecological transformation. The results show a growth in Italians’ concern for their health and living conditions in the face of environmental challenges, as well as a sharp increase in the demand for concrete action. Moreover, 82 percent of Italians believe that climate change is the greatest health risk, potentially leading to an increase in infectious diseases, as well as reduced food quality and negative effects on individuals’ mental health. While Italy is confirmed as one of the countries most aware of the reality of climate change (95 percent, compared to 89 percent of the world pop.), there is, however, a slight increase in skepticism about the causes of the climate crisis as it shows the need not to lower attention on ecological issues and to continue investing in initiatives to educate and raise awareness. In addition, the survey polled Italian public opinion on the impacts of climate change, showing how these factors are no longer perceived as abstract for a large percentage of the population, but it is a tangible issue that can bring consequences in the short term. Specifically on the topic of decarbonization, the Barometer shows that: 8 out of 10 Italians are willing to pay more for locally produced energy from non-recyclable waste and biomass to reduce CO2 emissions, ensuring local security of supply and reducing dependence on fossil fuel producing countries; 54% of Italians believe that successful green action must combine efficiency and innovation. In addition, for 9 out of 10 Italians, ecological transformation cannot and should not be achieved without the full involvement of the public and all stakeholders: only through a joint commitment of local authorities, companies, governments, individuals and institutions will it be possible to find and implement solutions to combat climate change. With this in mind, Siram Veolia collaborates with public and private Partners who share the same vision and Values on projects that have a positive impact in environmental, economic and social terms, developing initiatives to raise awareness and training for the benefit of the community. “At Siram Veolia, like 9 out of 10 Italians, we are convinced that local authorities, companies, governments, international institutions and individuals must find and implement convergent solutions regarding environmental issues. That’s why we develop alliances with partners who share our values and mission, engaging daily in green acculturation actions and projects,” said Emanuela Trentin, CEO of Siram Veolia. “With GreenUp, our 24/27 strategic plan, we accompany public entities and companies on the path to decarbonization and energy efficiency, continuing to develop innovative and digital solutions that help ensure energy supply, continuity and independence, today considered a priority as the results of the Barometer show.
