Taekwondo, Wuxi Worlds: ten blues hunting medals

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Italian National Team of Taekwondo is on its way to Wuxi (China), where the World Taekwondo Championships at Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center take place from 24 to 30 October 2025.

The event with direct elimination boards and “Best of 3” formula. Ten blues will be called, with seven men and three women ready to defend the colors of Italy. The expedition will lead Simone Alessio, who has returned from the Olympic bronze to Paris 2024 and already twice the world champion (2019 in -74 kg and 2023 in -80 kg). In China he will try a historic triplet iridata in three different categories, a company that has succeeded only the American Steven Lopez and the Spanish Brigitte Yagüe.

Next to him, Vito Dell’Aquila, Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020 and world champion 2022 in -58kg, will try to redeem the unfortunate Olympic parentheses in Paris, after a year of progressive return to international leadership. Andrea Conti (-54 kg), Denis Baretta (-63 kg), Ludovico Iurlaro (-68 kg), Angelo Mangione (-74 kg), Mattia Molin (+87 kg), Ilenia Matonti (-49 kg), Anna Frassica (-53 kg) and Giada Al Halwani (-57 kg).

In the blue group there will also be Andrii Chumachenko (-74 kg) and Renata Podolian (-73 kg), two Ukrainian athletes who, from the beginning of the war, train with the Italian National Team at the Federal Technical Centre. According to the World Taekwondo, the 2025 edition will hold a record participation with 991 athletes from 179 countries, in addition to the presence of the Refugiate Team, confirming itself as the most participated event in the history.

“We take a very challenging race, with long boards and high-level opponents from all over the world – explains technical director Claudio Nolano -. The team is built on multiple levels, including diamond tips, experienced athletes and young people on which we decided to invest. The goal remains to grow in view of Los Angeles.”.
