ROME (ITALPRESS) – The third edition of the Master’s program “Digitization of the electricity system for the energy transition” promoted by Terna in collaboration with the Universities of Cagliari, Palermo and Salerno as part of the Tyrrhenian Lab project, for which the company led by Giuseppina Di Foggia has planned a total investment of 100 million euros from 2022 to 2026, was inaugurated at the Aula Magna of the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo.The inauguration of the Master’s program took place with an event organized simultaneously in the three universities involved. Present in Palermo were Terna’s Director of External Relations and Institutional Affairs, David Massey, who was also moderator of the event, and the University’s Deputy Pro-Rector Enrico Napoli. “Terna invests in people through the continuous training of new skills, to enable a sustainable and inclusive energy and digital transition, as envisaged in the 2024-2028 Business Plan. Initiatives such as the Tyrrhenian Lab are fundamental because they consolidate, also through collaboration with Universities and Centers of Excellence, the company’s presence in the territories affected by power grid development interventions,” commented Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna. “The Tyrrhenian Lab Master is confirmed as a high-level academic training opportunity for the new generations and professionals in the electricity sector who will join the Terna Group and be protagonists of the future of energy. The excellent results obtained with the Master’s program are confirmation that this is a winning model and it is our intention to extend and replicate it in other locations in Italy and abroad.” “I believe that synergy and interaction between the University and the world of work are vital, all the more so in an area such as ours,” said the Rector of the University of Palermo, Massimo Midiri. “This Master’s program represents an extraordinary and concrete opportunity to offer our young people the chance to increase knowledge and expertise and the opportunity to count on a very high-level professional future in a fundamental field such as energy transition.The Tyrrhenian Lab aims to establish a training center of excellence distributed in the locations of the three respective cities where the cables of the Tyrrhenian Link, Terna’s submarine power line that will unite Campania, Sicily and Sardinia, for a total of about 970 km of connection, will land, encouraging the integration of energy flows from renewable sources.The project also has a positive impact in terms of employment effectiveness and enhancement of the territories, confirming the relevance that Southern Italy has for Terna, a land of great potential both in terms of infrastructure development and, above all, for the growth of skills.The number of applications submitted is growing strongly: a total of more than 350 applications were received, up from 170 in the first edition and 300 in the second. In addition, 65 percent of the applicants are under the age of 30 with the majority of the profiles (57 percent) between the ages of 25 and 30.This year’s Master’s program, aimed at candidates and applicants from STEM fields of study, attracted mainly profiles from Electrical and Energy Engineering (26 percent), Computer Science (18 percent) and Modeling and Data Science (8 percent).The Master’s program will consist of eleven modules and a project work for a total of 60 training credits and will include customized paths based on the participants’ previous academic experiences, programming labs and practical activities in the field.Upon completion, the 19 male and female students selected with the support of the universities involved will be hired by Terna and will be able to work in the territorial headquarters as experts and experts in algorithms and models for the Electricity Market, systems for analyzing and regulating field equipment and Station Automation Systems (SAS).
