ETNEA (CATANIA) (ITALPRESS) – A carbon monoxide poisoning occurred during a female volleyball match at the sports hall of Zafferana Etnea. A whole team, Volley Milazzo, was transported to the hospital after the malori accused by the athletes during the third set. The operating room of 118 and the Seus activated the emergency maxi team to manage the consequences of carbon monoxide intoxication occurred yesterday in Zafferana Etnea. In total 15 people were brought to the Catania ER: Eight, including seven athletes and an adult, received oxygen-therapy in the hyperbaric chamber at Cannizzaro, while the other seven were treated at Garibaldi.
All involved were released in the night. Meanwhile, on social media, the Asd Volley Milazzo emphasizes that “something really happened. One of our athletes accused a malore and fainted. Luckily after a while he regained consciousness. Immediately afterwards, another player of ours was complaining of head turns and difficulty breathing. A few minutes and all the other girls began to manifest strong headaches and trouble breathing.
Upon the arrival of 118, after visiting the entire team, the doctor – suspicious of an abnormal smell – requested the intervention of firefighters. Reliefs were made, the vigilants found carbon monoxide inside the gym and ordered immediate transfer to the hospital of all athletes. Today our athletes have risked their lives. And this, for us, is unacceptable. We can’t be quiet. We cannot but act. We owe it to our girls, their families and to those who enter that gym every day.”.
