US Senate toward confirmation of Trump’s new team

WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – The Senate is accelerating the confirmation process for President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks in these hours with several hearings. Among those present today are former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Trump’s nominee for U.S. attorney general, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio for Secretary of State.
Senate Democrats are pressing Bondi on whether she can maintain her independence from Trump as she begins with her new post. Rubio has offered a solid defense regarding the NATO defense alliance, despite Trump’s past harsh criticism of the organization. Also during the day today, other committees are considering instead the appointments of John Ratcliffe as CIA director, Chris Wright as secretary of energy, Sean P. Duffy as secretary of transportation, and Russell Vought as director of the Office of Management and Budget.
These are formal proceedings in which no changes are expected ahead of Trump’s inauguration ceremony, scheduled for Jan. 20 on Capitol Hill.
