ROME (ITALPRESS) – Italy is the queen of the World Skate Games. The Italian team closes with 31 golds, 32 silvers and 34 bronzes, for a total haul of 97 medals worth first place overall: second-place Colombia stopped at 21 rainbow titles. In what will remain as one of the most beautiful editions ever – 22 world championships for 12 different sports, within one big event that enlivened and colored Italian cities for 17 days from last Sept. 6 – four regions were involved, with Rome being the fulcrum of the international event, Abruzzo and the cities of Rimini and Novara being the protagonists. Rome saw the best athletes of extreme sports compete in the most action and adrenaline-pumping disciplines of all, such as skateboarding, scootering, roller freestyle, inline freestyle and skate cross. Abruzzo special stage of speed, downhill, inline field hockey, roller derby, slalom, skating inline marathon. Rimini enchanted with the choreography and grace of figure skating. Novara involved all fans with the thrills of rink field hockey. Medals and titles rained down for the Italian team and the roof of the world was conquered. The Italian national speed skating team confirmed itself among the strongest on the international scene, with a total of 8 golds, 7 silvers and 10 bronzes while in Rimini figure skating Italy climbed almost all the podiums of the competition, both in individual and pairs competitions, for a total of 31 medals (9 golds, 12 silvers and 10 bronzes). Azzurri also starred among the curves of the Abruzzo track in Tortoreto. The inline downhill has an absolute ruler and his name is Renato Pennuti, two golds at reckless speeds and emotions upon emotions given to the whole blue team. Novara was the scene of the rink field hockey tournaments: for the men’s senior national team a historic bronze awaited 21 years, among the best four in the world also the women’s senior and the men’s Under 19. Well-deserved bronze also for the boys inline field hockey, stopped in the semifinals only by the battleship USA but able to beat the surprise Namibia in the final for third place. In Chieti, Italy won 19 medals in Alpine: 8 golds, 6 silvers and 5 bronzes, while in inline freestyle, in the breathtaking setting of the Pincio terrace in Rome, coach Andrea Ronco’s boys won 3 silvers and 2 bronzes. The capital, transformed into a large urban stage dedicated to action sports and the Olympic park and street disciplines of skateboarding, saw the Italian athletes in evidence. Eight podiums, including four golds, for the Italian skate cross team. The Italian roller freestyle street put on record the hefty bronze medal, in the Junior women’s category, of Amelie Maria Pogaceanu while scootering street and park, among the youngest disciplines at the Worlds, were a huge success, enlivening Ostia and Colle Oppio. The Olympic sports of skateboarding park and street featured, among the Italians in the competition, Alessandro Mazzara and Agustin Aquila: the former, just back from Paris, is seventh in a competition with very high technical content. Aquila, on the other hand, finished among the best 10 in the world, touching on access to the finals.
