ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Soli 15 months to reach an important milestone. The Manufacture Ampere ElectriCity of Douai has already produced 100,000 units of Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, whose commercial launch dates back to October 2024. The 100,000th vehicle, in the Techno version with a 52 kWh battery (the most popular equipment/battery combination), was assembled last week. An event celebrated enthusiastically by all employees of the plant located in the Department of High France.
Elected “Auto of the Year 2025” by the jury of Car of The Year, Renault 5 E-Tech Electric embodies more than ever a response as committed as enthusiastic to the technological, social and environmental challenges of today’s mobility, contributing fully to the democratization of electric vehicles.
“After more than a year since the launch, the production of the hundredth Renault 5 E-Tech Electric in Douai is the result of the team’s commitment and the trust of our customers. The site Ampere di Douai has met a radical transformation towards 100% electric, supported by the passion and skills of its employees. What we celebrate today is much more than just a number: it is our collective ability to write a new page of sustainable innovation”, says Pierre-Emmanuel Andrieux, Director of the Douai plant.
What is celebrated is also Made in France. On the other hand, last year, Renault 5 E-Tech Electric obtained the Origine France Garantie certification. Douai’s Manufacture Ampere ElectriCity produces six electric models on one line: Renault 5, Renault Megane and Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric, Alpine A290, Nissan Micra and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Around 900 vehicles come out every day, of which two thirds are Renault 5 E-Tech Electric.
There are three teams that alternate daily to realize them: morning shift, afternoon shift and, from 13 October, night shift at a reduced rate. Renault has chosen to industrialize the production of most electric vehicles within the Ampere ElectriCity Center which combines two-thirds of suppliers (including the Cléon plant for electric motors) within a radius of 300 kilometers and most customers within a radius of 1,000 kilometers.
The Centre also includes the Maubeuge plant where, in particular, Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is assembled and the Ruitz plant, specialized in the processing of components for hybrid and differential exchanges, but also in the production of battery tanks through the joint-venture Minth Electricity Technology.
“Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is the flag holder of our ability to transform an iconic model into a leverage of French competitiveness and industrial sovereignty. This performance is based on the strength of a unique and efficient local ecosystem across the entire supply chain, which involves Douai, but also Cléon for electric motors, Ruitz and our partners and suppliers based in the Department of High France. More than an industrial success, it is a human and collective adventure that demonstrates our ability to combine speed, innovation and sustainable value creation for our customers and regions,” explains Anne-Catherine Brieux, Director of Industrial Operations of Ampere and Alpine. Since the launch, Renault 5 E-Tech Electric has received a success that does not go unnoticed: for several months it has been attested as leader of the electric vehicles of segment B in Europe. It also rises on the second step of the podium of private sales in the Old Continent in all channels.
In France, it even ranks as the market leader of electric vehicles from the beginning of the year. A position also reached in the UK in October, while in the Netherlands and Spain it is the leader of the segment. Renault 5 E-Tech Electric has recently debuted outside Europe, Turkey and Israel. Morocco was added to these two countries last month. Other markets will follow in 2026.
