Intesa Sanpaolo-Caritas, with “Help those Helps” projects in 16 juvenile prisons

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Caritas Roma’s Citadel of Charity hosted today the event “Help those who Help – edition 2025-2026”, which highlights the fruits of the collaboration between Caritas Italiana and Intesa Sanpaolo in the initiative “Help those who Help: a support for new fragility”, launched in 2020 to support with concrete interventions who work for the most vulnerable people. During the first part, the results of “Giustizia con Misericordia” were illustrated, implemented through 54 projects promoted by diocesan Caritas in 16 Italian regions, which produced significant results in support of the people held and their families, reaching altogether 14.188 beneficiaries. In these years, 6,423 prisoners were heard directly in prison during the project; 137 persons subject to alternative criminal measures accepted in community thanks to the availability of dedicated facilities; 737 inmates benefiting from premium permits who could spend periods with their loved ones, thanks to the presence of reception facilities outside the prison; 202 children, children of imprisoned persons, who were able to reawaken the parent during the award permits, thanks to the hospitality offered to the whole family in Caritas facilities. The program promotes the social reintegration of prisoners also through training paths and job opportunities, with the aim of restoring dignity, autonomy and a better future to those who live the prison reality, involving families, communities and institutions in a concrete cultural change. In the second part of the event, instead, was presented “Jobel”, the new national project promoted by Caritas Italiana with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo and specifically addressed to the child criminal system. Jobel will be operating in the two-year period 2025-2026 and will involve 16 territories in which IPM is present, with the aim of encouraging the social, educational and working reintegration of children and young people currently subjected to criminal measures. The project originates from the synergy between Caritas Italiana, local diocesan Caritas and chaplains of child criminal institutions, and includes structured paths of vocational training, support to study, guidance to work and other inclusion initiatives. Thanks to Jobel, the Caritas network can offer young people involved new opportunities for growth and redemption, in the perspective of full reintegration into the community once the detention period has ended. A work that also calls into question schools, parishes and territories, through actions of awareness and community animation, to build preventive and inclusive answers. The collaboration between Caritas Italiana and Intesa Sanpaolo is confirmed as a virtuous model of joint intervention on the territory. The alliance between the banking group and the Caritas network has allowed us to combine resources and complementary skills, generating tangible results in support of local communities and in the experiments of new inclusion paths. The results presented today, from the thousands of Italian Caritas of detainees reached and assisted, to the projects towards minors in the criminal area, testify the value of this shared strategy. “To help those who help are born from the sharing of values and the desire to work together to offer concrete opportunities for redemption and reintegration to the most fragile people, in particular in the criminal circuit – says Paolo Bonasssi, Chief Social Officer Intesa Sanpaolo -. The collaboration between Intesa Sanpaolo and Caritas Italiana demonstrates how networking work, based on trust and dialogue between private individuals, third sector and institutions is decisive to intervene in an incisive way in contrast to inequalities and strengthen communities.” “Despite the structural difficulties of the Italian criminal system, these experiences show us that there is concrete hopeof change, that it is possible to imagine and walks still unexplored paths of accompaniment of the people held that produce concrete results – says Fr Marco Pagniello, Director of Caritas Italian -. Thanks to interventions such as those made with Intesa Sanpaolo we are seeing real results. Working together, institutions and civil society can offer effective and dignified reintegration paths to those who are wrong, demonstrating that justice can truly walk in the same way with mercy.”.
