PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – A free way from the Schifani government to the “honour loan for university students”. The regional junta, reads in a note, thus implements regional law 28 of 18 November 2024, which has established a fund of 6 million euros for the right to university study. The new measure, promoted by the Regional Department of Education and Vocational Training in concert with the Regional Department of Economics, aims to support students who are worthy and under disadvantaged economic conditions with a funding of 10 thousand euros, to be obtained without the need for guarantees and with a ten-year refund. It will be Irfis-FinSicily, the regional financial institution, to take care of the provision of loans.
“With the honorary loan for university students we give a concrete answer to the right to study. We want no young Sicilian to reunite at university for economic reasons. Investing on our students means investing in the future of Sicily, holding talents and building here a more just and competitive society”, said the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani.
“After the stop, in recent months, in commission Culture of the Ars to the junta decision that had introduced the honorary loan for university students – says the regional Councillor of Education and Vocational Training, Mimmo Turano – the Schifani government has gone on starting new interlocutions with the student representatives and defined changes to the text emerged during the examination in commission. With this measure we support the right to study, ensuring our young people equal opportunities for access to academic education.”.
“This measure – says the Councillor of Economy, Alessandro Dagnino – is part of a precise vision of economic policy: invest in young people and put Sicily under the conditions of being chosen, because students remain in their land. With the honorary loan, we offer university students a concrete loan tool to build their own course of study and future here. It is a clear signal: Sicily is a land of opportunity in which to form and grow”.
The measure is addressed to members of first-year or subsequent years in universities and colleges based in Sicily, in possession of an Isee not exceeding 20 thousand euros.
