Iran, Hrana “At least 4.519 dead from the beginning protests”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – There are at least 4.519 people killed during protests in Iran on 28 December against the devaluation of the local currency, rial, and against the regime. The Human Rights Activists Agency (Hrana) announced in the bulletin updated yesterday, the twenty-fourth day of protests. The figure also includes 33 minors and 38 civilians who were not manifesting. In addition, 197 members of the security forces or persons affiliated with the regime were killed. The organization reveals that 9,049 deaths are in vain.

The twenty-fourth day of protests continued the arrests and widespread interruptions of the Internet. According to data from global traffic monitoring organizations, Iran is experiencing one of the lowest levels of international Internet connectivity in the world. This blackout, now entering one of the longest periods of interruption of communications at national level in recent years, has become a key tool to control public space, suppress the flow of information and limit independent documentation of protests, writes Hrana. As regards arrests, the detention of 26,314 persons was confirmed. In addition, Hrana reports 167 cases of forced confession and 5,811 people with serious injuries. Due to the difficulty of communication, the number of victims could be different from that indicated by Hrana.
