ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The challenges that history has placed before us are multifaceted and we have no choice but to act. We live in a time of crisis, but crises always hide an opportunity as well. The word crisis comes from the Greek word ‘crisis’ which means choice, decision. Crises force one to question oneself, they do not allow one to waver. No state can effectively govern challenges alone, which is why Italy is a staunch supporter of multilateralism and the most representative place: the UN, where we must learn, understand and respect each other.” Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in her speech
at the Summit of the Future as part of the work of the 79th UN General Assembly.
“No state can effectively govern the challenges of this time alone, and that is why Italy is a firm believer in multilateralism and the United Nations. Any organization is effective if its rules are fair and shared. That is why we are convinced that any review of governance cannot disregard the principles of equality, democraticity and representativeness. Reform makes sense if it is done for all and not for some. We are not interested in creating new hierarchies and we do not believe that there are A and B nations, but citizens who all have the same rights,” he added.
Here, then, is “the role of multilateralism: not a club in which to meet to write useless documents crammed with good intentions, but the place where one must come to terms with the urgency of decisions,” Meloni concluded.
