DAVOS (SVIZZERA) (ITALPRESS) – After President of the United States Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been agreed for Greenland with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, in an interview with Fox News Rutte himself stressed that the theme was not discussed during the meetings between him and Trump in Switzerland during the World Economic Forum. “This issue no longer emerged in my conversation with the president. He is very focused on what we have to do to ensure that that that vast Arctic region, where changes are currently occurring and where Chinese and Russian are increasingly active, can be protected.” Trump stated that the agreement led to his decision not to impose duties whose entry into force was scheduled for 1 February. “This was actually the core of our discussions,” Rutte insisted.
FREDERIKSEN “POSSIAMO NEGOZIARE SU TUTTO MA NON SU SOVRANITÀ”
“Security in the Arctic is a question that concerns the entire NATO alliance. Therefore, it is right and natural that it is also discussed between the Secretary General of NATO and the President of the United States. The Kingdom of Denmark has long been committed to increasing its commitment to the Arctic. The Danish Government has coordinated our efforts with the Naalakkersuisut of the Greenland Government throughout the process. We have maintained a close dialogue with NATO and I have regularly spoken with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, both before and after his meeting with President Trump in Davos. NATO is fully aware of the position of the Kingdom of Denmark. We can negotiate on everything about politics: security, investment, economy. But we cannot negotiate on our sovereignty.” So in a statement the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
“I was told that it was not like this. And of course, only Denmark and Greenland can make decisions on matters that concern them. The Kingdom of Denmark wishes to continue to engage in a constructive dialogue with allies on how to strengthen security in the Arctic, including the Golden Dome of the United States, provided that this happens in compliance with our territorial integrity,” he added.
