CUNEO (ITALPRESS) – “120 years are an important milestone, it is a truly incredible birthday that confirms Michelin’s commitment to Italy as a pillar of the Group’s strategy. Thus Agostino Mazzocchi, president and managing director of Michelin Italy, during the celebratory event for the anniversary of the Group in our Country, which took place today in the plant in Cuneo. “This is possible because the Michelin Group invests a lot in Italy, over the last five years we have reached 430 million euros invested in the national territory, which allow us to remain leader in our sector – added Mazzocchi – Michelin in Italy closed 2024 with 1.9 billion euros of turnover, which position it as leader of the national market. We are the first tyre manufacturer for installed capacity, we produce 63% of all national tyre production and we are also the first employer with more than 3800 people working in Italy for Michelin.” Employees who are distributed in the three plants of Turin (where there are also the registered office and the logistic warehouse), Alessandria and Cuneo, in addition to the commercial headquarters of Milan. In 2024 Michelin Italia created an induced of 328 million euros and involved 2800 suppliers, confirming itself as the engine of industrial and social development. Today, Cuneo opens a new robotic production line that allows to produce large tires up to 24 inches. As Mauro Sponza, director of industrial operations in Europe, recalled, “Cuneo represents 20% of Michelin’s capacity on the continent”. With regard to the launch of the new production line, the director of the Cuneo plant, Simone Rossi, explains: “We are witnessing the growth of the diameter of our tyres, a phenomenon that is now accentuated by regulations, vehicle connectivity and electrification, which is the real game changer – says – In 2019 only 25% of our tyres were 18 inches, to face 2028 we will have a capacity of at least 50% on this type of tyre. This is because electric vehicles require tyres with much more performance, because they are much heavier.”.
