Taekwondo, FITA extends membership to the traditional sector

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Historical turn for the Italian taekwondo. The FITA officially opens a traditional sector that will allow to affiliate to the realities that practice traditional taekwondo outside the World Taekwondo and therefore from the Olympic circuit. A historical decision made possible by the regulatory changes approved by the National Council on 17 December.

The Fita – read in a note – continues to demonstrate its ability to innovation and openness, building a path of growth and development for all the realities of the Italian taekwondo. Concrete actions that show that the Olympic values must be practiced not only proclaimed, from support to Ukrainian athletes to that to refugee athletes from Iran and Afghanistan, not to mention the historical demonstration organized at “Casa Italia” during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games, where athletes from South and North Korea performed together. Now Fita creates a new path for sports associations that have historically practiced the traditional Taekwondo outside the world federation, allowing them to be affiliated and to be part of the official Federation.

The president of Fita, Angelo Cito, states: “I have long been asked by Sport Associations and Masters not recognized to do something for them. I am happy to say that today this becomes reality. This is an important step for the movement, because it meets a real need of the territory and allows to welcome new realities that share values, history and culture of taekwondo”.
