Tourism, in 2025 in Italy arrives at +7.1%. Santanchè: “The small municipalities draw growth”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In 2025 there was a significant increase in tourism throughout Italy. This is what emerges from the data of the “Websites” platform of the Interior Ministry, which allows accommodation, hotels and extra-hotels, to communicate to the competent police the generalities of the people housed, within 24 hours of their arrival. The arrivals in the country have grown altogether of 7.1%, passing from 173 million in 2024 to more than 185 million in the year just past.

The increase in the tourist flow has affected both hotel structures, increased to 104,660.524 arrivals in 2025 compared to 101.629,754 of the previous year (+3%), and those extra hotels grown from 71,395,272 to 80,617,418 (+13%).

The positive result is both the largest number of Italian tourists (increased by 5.1% from 77.317.707 of 2024 to 81.251.494 of last year), and foreign tourists who grew by 8.7% (104.026.448 in 2025, compared to 95.707.319 of the previous year).

Data that attest a “very positive trend” and that will be object of comparison on the occasion of the Third International Forum of Tourism in Milan to which tomorrow will intervene Minister Matteo Piantedosi.

“The data on the tourist arrivals of 2025 issued by Viminale, certify the growth of Italian tourism, which touches a new record totaling – as already announced by the data MiTur – more than 480 million presences, up by more than 3% compared to 2024. And, in the context of the overall growth of the Italian tourist industry, a significant contribution comes from the small municipalities, which last year grew by +6,85% in attendance and +7,86% in arrivals on 2024, contributing to approximately 20% of total overnight stays. A particularly important result in the perspective of seasonal adjustment and diversification of the offer, also thanks to the strategy of the Ministry of Tourism. So much so that the 34 million euro fund dedicated to small municipalities has generated an estimated economic impact of more than 98 million, with a multiplier of 3.07 per Euro public invested”. Thus the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè during the first day of the third International Forum of the sector, organized by the ministry in collaboration with Enit, at the Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Milan.

In particular, the most intense growth of minor realities is concentrated in shoulder months: For example, April recorded an increase in attendance of more than +26%, a sign that the small municipalities demonstrate a greater ability to intercept demand outside season, becoming in fact both the engine of development of less established regional contexts, and one of the most effective tools to support seasonalization at national level, performing a function of redistribution and lightening in already established contexts. As regards the allocation of the Dicastery, of the total 34 million, to date 31.9 were committed in favor of 27 projects submitted by as many Municipalities, to which 69 Joint municipalities (about 9 per project).
