Mattarella at the conference on the Mediterranean of Cefalù “Indications to reflect” / Video

CEFALUE (PALERMO) (ITALPRESS) – A moment of collective reflection on the prospects of the Mediterranean with an exceptional guest: the president of the Republic Sergio Mattarella went to Cefalù, for the first time since he is head of the State, for the conference ‘Mediterranean: sea of peace?’, held at the Cathedral and organized by the Foundation Academy Via Pulchritudinis. The political, civil and military authorities took part in the event, while welcoming Mattarella were the bishop of Cefalù Giuseppe Marciante and the mayor Daniele Tumminello. The head of the state, before the entrance to the Cathedral, were given three gifts: a reworking of the book ‘Architects of churches’ by the Foundation, a reproduction of the Pantocrator Christ by the Diocese and a painting of the city by the Commune. The question adopted in the title is the emblem of the many questions that accompany the sea daily as historical, spiritual and geopolitical space, place of wars but also possible horizon of dialogue and peace: past, present and future intertwine, proposing a 360-degree reading of the Mediterranean and the possible ways so that there is no more blood.

To offer an articulated reading of the prospects of the sea are three scholars: the professor of History of Christianity at the Sapienza University of Rome Emanuela Prinzivalli, the professor of Modern History at the same university Anna Foa and the director of the museum Mart of Trento and Rovereto Micol Forti. “It was a moment of true intellectual enjoyment – Mattarella emphasizes, – Not taking back the countless stresses that emerged from the relationships, but the port within them as they contain a great deal of indications to reflect and adapt behaviors and initiatives to what was expressed. It was a path that put together history, which has not passed but a course that binds the past to the present and to the advent, and what has been told with clarity and depth: I thank Cefalù for this occasion and Monsignor Valenziano whose greetings, a great hug and gratitude for the actions made in many decades of commitment. We bring within us what has been said and stressed, each in his duties and responsibility”.

Marciante is directed directly to Mattarella, with a perspective that from the particular moves slowly towards the universal: “As you yourself, President, said before the parliament, ‘the commitment of all of us must be addressed to overcome the difficulties of the Italians’. I thank you especially for the attention you have given to the internal areas of our country and to their valorisation: They are severely marked by youth depopulation. In many parts of the world the winds of war are blowing impetuous, which generate fear: before the mentality steriously belligerent and an aggressive language, which increasingly characterizes politics and the relationship between rulers and citizens, we are called to disarm words and design a new world”. On behalf of the entire community of Cefalù, Tumminello is said to be “Impressly honored to have for the first time in Cefalù the head of the state: its presence is a constant and exemplary reference for all of us. At this particular moment I want to address a thought to Sicilians affected by the natural disasters of recent days: I am confident that the state’s commitment to revitalize, restart and restart will not fail. Our horizon goes beyond the Mediterranean and looks to globality: Only a universal perspective of rights to assert and protect can be a guarantee of a just society. Our time obliges us to a strong commitment of conscience and contrast to every form of authoritarianism.”.
