PADOVA (ITALPRESS) – The financiers of the Provincial Command of Padua have seized a load of more than 7 tons of contraband cigarettes. Along with cigarettes, the auto-articolate was also seized where the same were hidden as well as several machines used for espresso coffee, used as a cover load. It is one of the most important stops ever made on the road in Veneto. The driver of the vehicle, of Moldovan nationality, after the identification and photo signalling operations, was arrested for aggravated smuggling of tobacco. They were about 20 in the evening when the vehicle was noticed by a patrol of the Mobile Nucleus of the Padua Group. Stop for a check, according to the travel document, the load had to consist of 3 pallets of machines used for espresso, in 9 pallets of packaging and in 21 pallets of arabic coffee beans.
From the control it appeared that among the machines used for coffee had been hidden other goods, in particular of the cartoons that hid a load of foreign processed tobaccos, divided into 35,082 stains of smuggling cigarettes, not only deprived of the markings of the State Monopolies, but also bearing the counterfeit marks “Marlboro Red”, “Marlboro Gold” and “LeM”, why the driver is also disputed. The tobaccos seized would have been sold in detail without any authorization and tax evasion, quantified in approximately 1.4 million between excise and value added tax.
