False documents and terrorism, a 36-year-old Russian arrested in Bologna

BOLOGNA (ITALPRESS) – The men of the Antiterrorism Section of the Digos of Bologna, with the coordination of the Central Direction of the Police of Prevention, have performed an order of precautionary custody in prison, issued by the Gip of the court of Bologna at the request of the Procura, against a Russian citizen of 36 years for the crime of possession and manufacture of false identification documents.

The man, in June 2025, had been subjected to control while he was in the company of a compatriot. Both had been found in possession of fake identity documents, valid for expatriation. The 36-year-old had been investigated free of charge while the friend was arrested. From the investigations the existence of an international arrest warrant issued by the authorities of the Russian Federation, included in the Interpol system, with the charge of affiliation to the terrorist organization “Imarat Kavkaz”, as well as active participation in armed conflicts in Syrian territory during the period of maximum operationality of the terrorist organization of jihadist matrix “Islamic State”.

The Court of Appeal of Bologna, while validating the arrest, did not grant extradition in light of the current international situation involving that country. Therefore both were investigated by the Prosecutor for the crime of false documents. The analysis of the devices seized has allowed to reconstruct a probatory framework so as to lead to the issue of the precautionary measure.
