ICSC report: sport generates 32 billion value, sedentary collapses

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The sedentary in Italy collapses to the historical minimum, while the contribution of the sports sector to GDP is growing. This is what emerges from the third edition of the Sport Report 2025, wanted by the Minister for Sport and Youth and curated by the Institute for Sports and Cultural Credit and Sport and Health. A revolution starting from everyday life: 38 million Italians are active. Two Italians on three put in their weekly agenda the appointment with sports or physical activity. Compared to 2023, there are therefore 1 million Italians who have chosen an active lifestyle, thus reducing the sedentary data up to 33.2%.

“We are launching new challenges, because we have the obsession for improvement,” said the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi at the press conference to present the report. The sports sector has come to generate 32 billion euros of added value, equal to 1.5% of GDP (in increase compared to the previous year) and to give employment to 421 thousand people. “This wealth must be multiplied with the effects it produces, it is the concrete signal of a huge moral value, not always easily decipherable, but which finds implementation in the passion of all of us,” added Abodi.

“The Sport Report 2025 confirms the importance of providing an updated and systematic information framework, capable of effectively orienting public development policies of the sports sector”, explained the president of the Institute for Sports and Cultural Credit, Beniamino Quintieri. “Integrated reading of economic, employment and social data allows to assess the impact of investments and to plan increasingly targeted and sustainable interventions on the territories. In this path, the institutional collaboration between public subjects and operators of the sports system is an essential element in building policies based on shared evidence and objectives,” concluded Quintieri.

“The Report highlights how investments in sport have a return not only economic but also social. The system has to invest more and more in year-round sports,” added Marco Mezzaroma, president of Sport and Health. The demand grows and increases the offer CON more than 78 thousand plants and 114 thousand sports spaces, as emerges from the National Census of Sports Impiantistica. The novelty of this edition are the regional tabs, called “bussoles for investments and for the development of an area that can transform Italy into a healthier and more active country” from Mezzaroma.

“These numbers are for us to be aware of what we are and to plan the design of our future, giving priority thanks to the knowledge that gives us the numbers. We must be able to apply them to our realities. This year we realize that the team has enriched a player. We have the obligation, duty and pleasure to be an even more present component”, added the president of the Coni, Luciano Buonfiglio, while the number 1 of the Cip, Marco Giunio De Sanctis recalled the “special world” of the Paralympic Committee. “It takes a lot of competence because we need to know the various disability and classifications of each. Starting is our central point”, his words.
