ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “I wish to express the most felt applause to the Order’s Forces and to all the authorities involved in the important international operation Switch off, which represented an extraordinary example of professionalism, investigative cooperation and operational capacity in contrast to cybercrime and audiovisual piracy.” Thus Federico Bagnoli Rossi, President FAPAV, Federation for the Protection of Audiovisual and Multimedia Content Industries, on the operation called “Switch off”, which led to searches and seizure against numerous inquiries and companies operating in Italy and abroad.
“The action coordinated by the Prosecutor of the Republic of Catania, with the support of Eurojust and the collaboration of Europol, Interpol and the Police Forces of numerous foreign countries, shows how international cooperation is today an indispensable element in facing the modern forms of organized crime – he adds -. Particular recognition goes to the Postal Police Service and Cyber Security and the @On network, for the high technical and investigative level put in place in the dismantling of a complex computer infrastructure that operated on a global scale. The operation, which has allowed to identify an articulated transnational organization, to block thousands of retailers and over one hundred thousand end users in Italy, as well as to obscure illegal platforms and servers abroad, has inflicted a decisive blow to a criminal system capable of generating huge profits and serious economic damage to broadcasters, to the industries of cinema, TV and sports”.
“From the latest FAPAV/Ipsos data, in fact – says Federico Bagnoli -, approximately 295 million acts of piracy completed with an overall economic damage estimated in over 1 billion and 100 million euros with repercussions for the Italian economy of approximately 2.2 billion euros of loss in terms of turnover of the companies, not only of the audiovisual industry, and a total employment loss of more than 12 thousand jobs.”.
“This result once again testifies to the dedication, courage and the highest level of competence of women and men in uniform, who work daily to protect the legality, economy and citizens’ rights in the digital environment. To them is the gratitude of the entire Federation for an operation of great importance and strategic value for the future of the whole entertainment industry”, concludes Federico Bagnoli Rossi, President FAPAV, Federation for the Protection of Industries of Audiovisual and Multimedia Content.
