Cinema, Giuli signs in Beijing the new co-production agreement Italy-China

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The cinema is an extraordinary art that speaks a universal language. Born from the encounter between memory and vision, between roots and future, and becomes a shared knowledge space. In this context, international film co-productions, supported by a framework of clear incentives, are a concrete tool for bringing people closer and creating development. From now on, Italian and Chinese cinema will be able to collaborate more easily on joint projects thanks to the new Cinema Co-production Agreement, which will give a new impetus to the Internationalization of the Italian film industry”. The Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, said this in the margin of signing the agreement with the president of China Media Group, Shen Haixiong, head of the Chinese government for the cinema and audiovisual sector. “The relationship between Italy and China in the film industry has strengthened over the years thanks to a structured work and a constant collaboration between institutions and industries of the two countries. Initiatives such as ‘Italy-Country in Focus’ in the main Chinese festivals and ‘Italian Screens’ have contributed decisively to increasing China’s attention to Italian cinema, opening important market opportunities to our professionals. The stage reached today represents a further step forward along this path, in the sign of a shared future, founded on Italian creative talent”, said the undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni.

The visit to Beijing of Minister Giuli opened today with the signature of the new Agreement of cinema co-production between the governments of Italy and China, aimed at promoting the realization of joint film works. The Agreement, which is part of the strategy of the Ministry of Culture to support the international promotion of Italian cinema, will allow to relaunch cooperation with one of the world’s leading film industries, after the previous bilateral agreement had expired in 2021. The synergies in the production and distribution of films on their respective markets, the promotion of Italian cultural heritage on Chinese media and the realization of documentaries dedicated to the Italian-Chinese twinning experiences of UNESCO Sites were the themes at the center of the meeting of the Minister Giuli with the president of China Media Group, Shen Haixiong, who preceded the signing ceremony.
