Santanchè “5 million euros in support of tourism in Calabria, Sicily and Sardinia after the cyclone Harry”

MILANO (ITALPRESS) – On the occasion of the BIT of Milan, the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè, together with the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto, the AAD of Enit SpA Ivana Jelinic and the Tourism Councils of the Region Sicily Elvira Amata and the Sardinia Region Franco Cuccureddu, presented the press conference “Welcome to South Italy. Sicily, Calabria and Sardinia: the Wonder does not stop.”.

During the event, which took place within the ENIT pavilion, Minister Santanchè announced that the ministry will allocate 5 million euros in support of tourism in the territories affected by the cyclone Harry; also together with the Ad di Enit it has evidenced that, at the ITB exhibition in Berlin ( scheduled from 3 to 5 March), the Ministry of Tourism, ENIT S.p.A. and the regions concerned, will present promotion actions in support of the destinations hit by cyclone Harry in January.

In particular, the initiative will launch a narrative aimed at reassureing tourists, citizens and operators, ensuring the presence and closeness of the institutions, through targeted, concrete and timely actions, and to prevent material damage to the aggravating further image damage to the affected territories. An international activity to reposition the storytelling of the affected destinations will be involved in content creators globally, active ad hoc media tours, focusing on the main reference markets of these regions such as USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, France, Benelux, Spain and Austria. The choice of the Berlin trade fair is strategic in the context of a foreign market – the German one – which is fundamental to the tourist industry and the economy of the three regions. Germany, in fact, is the first international market for Sardinia (2.1 million overnight stays) and Calabria (half million overnight stays) and the second for Sicily (ISTAT, 2024).

“In similar circumstances, timing is as fundamental as economic resources, and we know it very well: the Meloni government has always been ready to act celerically at the occurrence of calamitous events that have bent but never broken the socio-economic fabric of our nation. A part of us is still suffering for what happened, but, as we will strongly reiterate starting from Berlin, we must say that the Wonder of South Italy – and all Italy – does not stop. And, in order to assure us, we must protect our tourist destinations, even from the communicative and narrative point of view, so that the damage immediately does not add the weight of a story that remains irreparable and unjust damage of image. For this reason we will allocate 5 million euros for the tourism of the affected regions, to invest also in ad hoc actions and promotion activities to support the next tourist season of these territories”, said the Minister Santanché.

“We are on the front line to tell the wonders of our country and South Italy all over the world as in this case. Sicily, Calabria and Sardinia are unique destinations, which attract tourists from all over the world every year and we must preserve them, telling the things in the right way. We must not let reality be distorted, but with commitment and transparency we want to give the correct narrative of these territories, invoking travellers to visit them, to immerse themselves in their offers, investing on site, thus giving a momentum to the local economy”, said Ivana Jelinic, AD of ENIT Spa. During the conference, the Minister and Ad Jelinic also announced that, at Casa Sanremo, Enit SpA will participate in the Italian song Festival, a promotion space will be dedicated to the regions affected by the cyclone.
