In 2025 industrial production falling by 0.2%, Istat data

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In December 2025 Istat estimates that the seasonal index of industrial production decreased by 0.4% compared to November. On the average of the fourth quarter the level of production grew by 0.9% compared to the previous three months. The monthly seasonal index shows increases in energy sectors (+1.2%) and instrumental goods (+0.5%); negative changes record, instead, intermediate goods (-0.4%) and consumer goods (-0.9%). Net of the calendar effects, in December 2025 the general index increased by 3.2% (the calendar working days were 20, as in December 2024). More markedly increase the capital goods (+7.2%) and with less intensity the intermediate goods (+2.9%) and energy (+1.7%). Consumer goods increase marginally (+0.1%).

The sectors of economic activity that record the major increases in the trend are the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+23.8%), the other manufacturing industries (+9.3%) and metallurgy and manufacturing of metal products (+7.4%). Larger flexions are found in the manufacture of chemicals (-3.6%), textiles, clothing, leather and accessories (-3.4%) and in the wood, paper and printing industry (-2.9%). “A consuntivo del 2025, net of the calendar effects, industrial production of 0.2% – is the comment of Istat -. Among the main groupings of industries, an overall increase of 2025 is recorded only for energy. As part of manufacturing, pharmaceutical and food industries, computer and electronics manufacturing have increased growth compared to the previous year, while broader flexions characterize the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries and the manufacture of means of transport.”.
