ROMA (ITALPRESS) – A platform of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security to prevent and manage environmental and climate risks. Presented today in Rome, at the headquarters of Confindustria in the ongoing event “Beyond Climate”, the Integrated System of Monitoring and Forecasting (SIM). The national infrastructure, unique in Europe, avant-garde for the technological apparatus will be used for the prevention and monitoring of hydrogeological instability, the management of emergencies in support of civil protection, agriculture of precision, the monitoring of marine and coastal pollution, the identification of environmental illicits and the monitoring of fires on the national territory.
Funded by the PNRR with a total budget of 500 million euros, the SIM will be at the service of Ministries, Regions, public administrations, Forces of the Order and Civil Protection, through the use of a cutting-edge technological infrastructure, artificial intelligence and supercalculum of data from central bodies, regions, Forces of the Order, over 40 administrations and more than 3,000 datasources. Among the main investment items, approximately 250 million are intended for the strengthening of monitoring and equipment networks, 35 million for the national lidar and gravimetric relief, 35 million for active fire combat and 180 million for design, application development and digital infrastructure.
The project, also presented in G7 and G20, was born thanks to the collaboration between institutions, research and industry. SIM has been developed by the technological partners Leonardo and DXC, leader of two temporary groupings of enterprises, with over 30 specialized companies involved. In addition to public users, the system provides structured forms of involvement of qualified private individuals. “With SIM – explains the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto – Italy is endowed with a technological advance of great value: an extra certainty for environmental safety in all its declination. Institutional cooperation and integration between data that guarantees this new model, a true ‘best practice’ in Europe, will allow us to better address the growing challenges posed by climate change.”.

In the course of the initiative will also present the key results and the concrete functioning of the platform, as well as addressing the issue of digitization and new technologies in support of environmental safety. The event “Beyond Climate” continues on the day of tomorrow, with technical tables that will deepen the impact and potential of the new platform on the different sectors.
