ROMA (ITALPRESS) – WhatsApp has denounced an attempt by Russian authorities to block the operation of the messaging app to force users to switch to a state-controlled service. “Today the Russian government tried to completely block WhatsApp in an attempt to direct people to a state-owned surveillance app. Trying to isolate more than 100 million users from private and secure communications is a step back and can only lead to less security for Russian citizens. We continue to do everything possible to keep users connected,” writes on X the messaging company.
In close circle the reply entrusted to the Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who at Tass said: “This is a matter of compliance with Russian laws. If Meta complies, it will start a dialogue with the Russian authorities and then there will be a chance to reach an agreement. If the company will continue to maintain its intransigent position and, I would say, to demonstrate an absolute reluctance to respect the Russian laws, then there will be no chance”, he added.
