Santanchè “For 2026 in the Olympic areas approximately 513.000 arrivals are expected, total economic impact greater than 5,3 billion”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The project “Welcome to South Italy. Sicily, Calabria and Sardinia: the Wonder does not stop” “will reverse the negative narrative, through 5 million euros in support of the tourism of the affected regions, to invest also in international activities of repositioning the storytelling of the destinations involved, in order to avoid further damage of image and relaunch the reputation of Sicily, Calabria and Sardinia”. This is said by the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, in an interview with the Century of Italy. “We cannot afford to lose even a visitor. And to do so, we must act immediately. Timing, in these cases, is as important as economic resources – continues -. While aware of the suffering still alive, we are determined to reaffirm, starting from the Berlin fair, that the Wonder of South Italy does not stop.”.

In the first days of March at the ITB exhibition in Berlin will be presented new and specific promotion initiatives to support the land affected by the cyclone. “The choice of Germany is not casual – the minister emphasizes -: it represents the first international market for Sardinia and Calabria, respectively with 2.1 million and half a million overnight stays, and the second for Sicily, with 1,17 million attendances. Germany therefore plays a strategic role in tourism in the most affected regions. However, our promotional action will not be limited to this nation: we will also address other major reference markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, France, Benelux, Spain and Austria.”.

Santanché then answers a question about the impact of the Milan-Cortina Olympics on tourism: “For 2026, in the Olympic areas there are approximately 513,000 arrivals, 1.8 million visitors and a direct tourist expense of 281 million euros, with a total economic impact of more than 5.3 billion euros and a legacy destined to last, also thanks to a social value of 1.7 euros generated for each euro invested in the event – the minister explains. In addition, Milan has already booked 80% of the rooms typically requested for February-March and approximately 400,000 people are expected more than the norm in the season of the Games. On the Italian mountains, this winter will be on holiday 6,2 million Italians (of which 2 million will follow the live races) and are estimated to be over 5 million presences in the mountain farms”.
