Short track, biathlon and dry skiing: Italy remains firm at 18 medals

CORTINA (ITALPRESS) – The belly is not yet full but sometimes happens to be fast. Valentine’s Day agrodolce for Italy at the Winter Games of Milan-Cortina: the bill of medals remains firm at 18 but the positive indications do not miss. In the evening of the short track Pietro Sighel was expected in 1500 and instead his race ends in the quarters, after being overwhelmed by the Ukrainian Handei, in turn touched by the Dutch Emons (later disqualified) and only promoted in the semifinals.

Thomas Nadalini and Luca Spechenhauser make an extra round but the medals are the others. In addition to Arianna Fontana, Elisa Confortola and Chiara Betti arrive in the quarters of 1000 and then, together with Arianna Sighel, they center the pass for the final of the relay. The next day Giacomel, Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer are missing medals in the sprint.

But if the sappadina has little to recriminare and can redeem itself in the pursuit, the 35-year-old Brunico financier lands on a day no and also compromises the next race. Three errors in the polygon for Wiererer, even out of the top 40 – better than her also Michela Carrara (23rd) and Hannah Auchentaller – and with a delay of 2’12′′′9 from Norwegian Maren Kirkeeide, gold.

La Vittozzi, for his part, does not miss a hit but on the skis pays money and ends fifth, behind also Lou Jeanmonnot and Milena Todorova who had made a mistake to shoot at head. The 40′′′′6 from Kirkeeide, however, leaves the door open to a possible medal tomorrow. In Bormio gigante amaro for the blue colors, with Alex Vinatzer who closes the first eleventh heat and then comes out in the second, while Luca De Aliprandini does not complete even half race since, as happened in Paris in super-G, he unleashes a ski.

In the end the best is Giovanni Franzoni, 24th: “But I’m exhausted and I can’t wait to take a few days off.” Lucas Pinheiro Braathen writes the story, which brings Brazil to the highest step of the winter Olympic podium (first absolute medal for South Americans), with Marco Odermatt second: the World Cup dominator concludes his experience in Milan-Cortina with three medals but none of the most precious metal.

At the top of the head, the women’s bottom bracket, which floats long in the areas that count and eventually ends sixth (gold Norway), no surprise in the skeleton where Alessandra Fumagalli and Valentina Margaglio had compromised their chances already in the first two run while Rosatelli finishes in the backs in the 500 speed skating won by the Stolz phenomenon.

Good news from the freeski big air with Flora Tabanelli and Maria Gassliter in the final. Closed the adventure of the blues, the boys of Italhockey will pass from the play-offs after with Finland the defending champion incassano the third defeat in three races (11-0). Constantine and compañeras are also badly beaten by China and Sweden after 4 games. Tomorrow, however, can be a Sunday “bestiale”: the female giant with Federica Brignone on the Olympia delle Tofane, the mixed snowboard cross bracket with Moioli and Sommariva and the already cited biathlon pursuit with Vittozzi at the white weapon could lead to the unexpected overtaking on Lillehammer.
