ROMA (ITALPRESS) There are moments that trace a definitive line between the “first” and the “after”, moments when a fragile life meets a greater promise of fear. For the 12-year-old Mariano living in Vena di Maida, in the province of Catanzaro, that border was crossed on February 5, when the Child Jesus Foundation of Cairo Ente Filantropico ETS chose to tighten it to itself, officially adopting its path of healing, protection and rebirth. Mariano, known as “the child of 200 kg”, carries on his young shoulders a condition of severe pathological obesity that marked deeply his childhood.
That number not only tells a body weight: it tells fatigue, immobility, vulnerability, isolation. It tells the urgency of highly specialized care and a continuous, medical and human accompaniment. Its situation requires a structured multidisciplinary course – endocrinological, nutritional, psychological and rehabilitative – able to return it not only health, but perspective, autonomy and dignity. It was not only a signature on a legal agreement with parents, Sigismund and Tamara, but an act of moral and spiritual responsibility.
The Foundation has chosen to become a shield, home and guardian of Mariano, assuming the exclusive responsibility to collect, coordinate and guarantee every energy, every resource and every gesture of love that the world will give him. A commitment based on the most rigorous transparency, so that each contribution becomes concrete care, every donation in tangible dignity, every support in the real future.
“As a sweet caress, a seal of this newly born bond, on February 6 the history of Mariano touched the peaks of hope and grace – read in a note -. The child and his family were welcomed in Private Audience by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. In that suspended silence, full of light and peace, Mariano received the Apostolic Blessing: a gesture of spiritual caresss, an invisible embrace that illuminated the shadows of the past, given comfort to the present and entrusted his future to a larger, shared and guarded project, full of hope, love and protection”.
“We decided to embrace Mariano, to take charge of his fragility and to turn it into living hope – says Monsignor Yoannis Lazhi Gaid, President of the Foundation and former personal secretary of Pope Francis -. We couldn’t stay in front of the weight that weighs on the shoulders of a child. We chose to share it, support it together with thousands of generous hearts and strongly relaunch the initiative: We’re all Mariano. We will not walk alone: we will do it together with anyone who wants to join us, coordinating every help with rigor and transparency, so that the hope of Mariano is no longer a fragile wait, but a safe house, a constant care, a possible future. No weight is unresolved, when to raise it is the love of many”.
The Foundation invites institutions, associations, enterprises and citizens to adhere with responsibility and heart to this initiative, so that Mariano and her family feel no longer alone and can face this path supported by a united community. “Security. Transparency. Unit. This protocol is not only a legal act, but a moral and public pact – concludes the note – a shield for Mariano, a guarantee for those who donate, a coordinated project that ensures that every healthcare, economic support and every institutional action converge in a single, large plan of care and rebirth. Today is not just the story of a child. Today is everyone’s responsibility. Today, really, we are all Marian.”.
