Volvo Trucks, 10,000 gas trucks sold worldwide

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Volvo gas powered trucks are recording an increase in sales, as more and more markets are adopting alternative fuels that allow a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

The 2025 was the best year ever for Volvo in terms of sales of gas-powered vehicles, thanks to cutting-edge products, supply and favorable fuel cost. Volvo Trucks has delivered over 10,000 gas-powered trucks worldwide since the company introduced this technology in 2018. So far, the UK is Volvo’s leading market, followed by Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway and France. New expanding gas markets include India and Latin America, where volumes are growing steadily.

Volvo gas engines are available in the Volvo FM, FH and FH Aero heavy range and can work smoothly with conventional or bio-LNG natural gas, a non-fossil gas derived from organic waste that replaces the traditional one.

“The Volvo gas engine technology is a state-of-the-art solution in terms of power, torque, engine response and fuel efficiency, and our customers also appreciate the excellent performance, reliability and overall comfort of our gas trucks,” says Jan Hjelmgren, product management manager at Volvo Trucks.

“We see a substantial potential for gas vehicles as an important step in the path to zero-emission transport.” Volvo gas trucks can travel up to 1,000 kilometers with only one full, making them particularly suitable for long-range transport and regional distribution, as well as construction operations.

They represent a practical alternative to other low-emission solutions at a time when drivers and customers are looking for more sustainable options. In several countries there is already a well-developed network of gas supply stations and access to bio-LNG is rapidly expanding.

Some examples are Germany, Norway, Finland and Sweden, where all gas supply stations now offer this fuel. This allows many users to obtain CO2 reductions up to 100% (from well to wheel).

In markets where tax incentives and public support for renewable fuels and low emissions are available, bio-LNG becomes a highly affordable alternative. The advanced technology of Volvo gas engines comes from the highly successful D13 kinematic chain, which offers similar performance to diesel substantially reducing CO2 emissions.
