ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In January, according to Istat data, the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), to the gross of the tobaccos, recorded a change of +0.4% on a monthly basis and of +1.0% on an annual basis (from +1.2% of December), confirming the preliminary estimate. The tendential growth of the general index is mainly due to the dynamics of the prices of food goods, not processed (+2.5%) and processed (+1.9%), to that of the prices of the Services relative to the dwelling (+4.4%), the tobacco (+3.3%) and the recreational, cultural services and for the care of the person (+3.0%). In January the “bottom inflation”, net of fresh energy and food, is equal to +1.7% and that net of only energy goods at +1.9%. In January the prices of goods recorded a change on a tendential basis of -0.2%, while the prices of services are up by +2.5%. The differential between the service sector and that of goods, therefore, is pairs to +2.7 percentage points. Food Goods prices for home and person care increase by 1.9% compared to January 2025 as well as high-frequency purchases. The annual growth rate of the “expenditure cart” is +1.9%, while the underlying inflation is +1.7%.
The change in the general index (+0.4%) mainly affected the increase in the prices of regulated energy (+8.9%), the Services for the home (+1.9%), the Foods, not processed (+1.2%) and processed (+0.6%), the Non-regulated Energy (+1.1%), the Durable Goods (+0.8%) and the recreational, cultural and personal services. The only drop on a conjunctural basis is recorded for the prices of the Transport Services (- 3.8%). The inflation acquired for 2026 is +0.4% both for the general index (in December it was nothing) and for the fund component (+0.2% in December). The harmonised consumer price index (IPCA) shows a variation of -1.0% on a monthly basis, due to the start of winter clothing and footwear sales (not considered for the NIC index), and to +1.0% on an annual basis (from +1.2% of the previous month), confirming the preliminary estimate. The national consumer price index for households of workers and employees (FOI), net of tobaccos, recorded a change of conjunctural +0.3% and a trend of +0.8%.
